The little seaside hamlet of Cortellazzo is one of the suburbs of Jesolo. It has its own small fishing fleet and around 1,500 inhabitants. It was born on the borders with the municipality of Eraclea, on the banks of the Cavetta Canal and at the mouth of the Piave River.
The birth of this hamlet was the result of new commercial traffic that the excavation of the Cavetta Canal, carried out by the Serenissima Republic of Venice in around 1600, caused to flourish.
First several huts sprang up, followed by an inn and, only later, houses in brick and a church.
Cortellazzo was an important front line during the First World War. It was, in fact, here on the banks of the River Piave and the Cavetta Canal that the two armies fought.
Today, Cortellazzo is a famous area of Jesolo, particularly popular for its traditional fish restaurants.
