The Caligo Tower   18.12.2009

In Jesolo you can also visit the ancient medieval tower, known as the "Caligo Tower". This was built near the Caligo Canal, from which it takes its name.

It is believed that it was built on the remains of an ancient structure from the Roman age and today we can admire the base, built re-using material from the Roman era.

Some 18th century maps show that there were originally two towers with the same name. The second tower was located on the opposite side of the Caligo Canal in Lio Maggiore, but has completely disappeared today.

In the 15th century the Caligo Tower was called Turris de Plave and according to documents that have come to light, there were a series of similar constructions all along the Revedoli Canal - Torre da Fine and Tor de Rodevol – which were destroyed in the 17th century.
