Cortellazzo is a small hamlet of Jesolo, light years away in atmosphere from the tourist Lido. It sits where the Cavetta canal meets the river Piave, near the river mouth and the Laguna del Mort — rated by Legambiente among the most beautiful beaches in Italy. The village grew up after 1601, when the Serenissima dug the canal, and it still preserves fishermen's houses, a picturesque marina, a little church from 1698 and its original seafaring vocation.
It's the part of Jesolo where time seems to flow more slowly. Fishing is still a living trade, with fishing tourism, fish festivals and outstanding restaurants serving the day's catch. The Laguna del Mort is a protected nature reserve, with cycle paths, birdwatching and almost wild beaches.
For anyone seeking an intimate, authentic, almost philosophical dimension — sea on one side, lagoon on the other — Cortellazzo is a choice that goes against the grain. Low housing density, few services, a strong village atmosphere. It's not for everyone, and that's its strength.
