Bibione

The wellness island at Veneto's edge: thermal baths, pine forests and an endless beach

Bibione is a large seaside resort, a frazione of the municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento (VE), at the eastern end of the Veneto coast: a kind of island between the mouth of the Tagliamento — which separates it from Lignano, already in Friuli — and the lagoon. It is famous for its very long, well-equipped fine-sand beach, awarded the Blue Flag for decades, for its thermal baths (Bibione Thermae), its large pedestrian zones and the Bibione Pineda pine forest. From Jesolo it is about 53 km, just under an hour by car, because the route skirts lagoons and rivers inland.

Getting there from Jesolo

By car

There is no direct coastal road: from Jesolo you travel inland. The easiest way heads up towards San Donà di Piave and continues on the SS14 road or the A4 motorway to the Latisana exit, then down to Bibione: about 53 km in all, 55-60 minutes. Between Jesolo and Bibione you skirt the Caorle lagoon and the Piave, Livenza and Tagliamento rivers.

By bus

ATVO connects Bibione with San Donà di Piave and with Latisana railway station (trains to Venice and Trieste); in summer tourist lines operate. From Jesolo the car is the most practical option, or a bus/train change via San Donà or Latisana.

By bike

Bibione is a destination for fit cycle tourists: from Jesolo you ride along embankments and inland cycle paths, skirting the big rivers. Locally the cycle network is excellent, between pine forest and lighthouse; in summer a ferry boat crosses the Tagliamento mouth, linking Bibione with Lignano.

The beach of Bibione

Bibione has one of the longest, best-equipped beaches of the upper Adriatic: a broad expanse of fine golden sand with shallow water, awarded the Blue Flag for decades. The shore is divided into several zones — Bibione Spiaggia, the pedestrian heart with shops and services; Bibione Pineda to the west, quieter and set in the pine forest; Lido del Sole and Lido dei Pini. At the eastern end, where the Tagliamento meets the sea, stands the Punta Tagliamento lighthouse, reachable on a lovely walk or bike ride through the vegetation.

Things to do in Bibione

Bibione's signature attraction is its thermal baths: Bibione Thermae draws on warm mineral water (about 52°C) rising from over 400 metres deep, for pools, mud treatments and wellness circuits open most of the year. Don't miss the pine forest and the Punta Tagliamento lighthouse at the river mouth, water sports, the long pedestrian centre for shopping and evening strolls, lagoon excursions and the summer boat link to Lignano. It's a destination that combines sea, nature and wellness, much loved by families and German-speaking visitors.

Jesolo or Bibione?

Bibione and Jesolo are the two great seaside capitals of eastern Veneto, similar in size but different in character and location. Bibione, isolated between river and lagoon, focuses on thermal baths, large pedestrian zones and a more 'natural' feel; Jesolo, close to Venice, offers theme parks like Aqualandia, the shopping of Via Bafile, events and nightlife. They are about an hour apart by car: rather than a day trip, Bibione is a genuine alternative base. For half-day excursions from Jesolo, Caorle, Eraclea Mare and Cavallino-Treporti are more convenient.

How far is Bibione from Jesolo?

About 53 km, 55-60 minutes by car. There is no direct coastal road: you go inland via San Donà di Piave and Latisana, skirting the Caorle lagoon and the rivers.

Which municipality is Bibione part of?

Bibione is a frazione of the municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento (VE). It lies at the eastern end of the Veneto coast, on the Tagliamento river mouth, facing Lignano Sabbiadoro (Friuli-Venezia Giulia).

What are the Bibione thermal baths?

Bibione Thermae is a thermal spa fed by warm mineral water (about 52°C) rising from over 400 metres deep, used for pools, mud treatments and wellness; it is open most of the year.

Is Bibione worth a day trip from Jesolo?

You can (about an hour by car), but given the distance Bibione is more an alternative holiday base than a half-day trip. For quick excursions from Jesolo, Caorle, Eraclea Mare and Cavallino-Treporti are more convenient.

Can you get to Lignano from Bibione?

Yes: in summer a ferry boat crosses the Tagliamento mouth, connecting Bibione to Lignano Sabbiadoro in a few minutes, avoiding the long road detour.
