Cavallino-Treporti
Europe's open-air tourism capital, between the Venice lagoon and the sea
Cavallino-Treporti is the coastal peninsula between Jesolo and Venice: about 13 km of sandy beach with dunes, dozens of campsites and holiday villages that make it Europe's leading open-air destination, and the Punta Sabbioni pier, from which Venice is about half an hour away by vaporetto. From Jesolo Lido it takes 15-20 minutes by car along Via Fausta.
Getting there from Jesolo
By car
From Jesolo Lido take Via Roma Destra and then Via Fausta westwards, crossing the Sile bridge at Cavallino: 10-13 km to the centre, 15-25 minutes depending on your destination. In high season Via Fausta gets busy: travel early morning or late evening if you can.
By bus
ATVO and ACTV bus lines connect Jesolo with Cavallino, Ca' Savio and Punta Sabbioni along Via Fausta, stopping in all the main localities. From Punta Sabbioni, ACTV vaporetti leave for Venice (San Marco) and the islands.
By bike
From the Jesolo lighthouse to the centre of Cavallino it is about 6 flat kilometres with a cycle path along Via Fausta. Continuing towards Punta Sabbioni you ride among pine woods, market gardens and the WWI batteries of the 'Via dei Forti' route.
The beaches of Cavallino-Treporti
The Cavallino coastline stretches for about 13 km from Punta Sabbioni to the Cavallino lighthouse, continuing seamlessly from Jesolo's beach. It is a sandy coast with dunes and pine woods, awarded the Blue Flag; many beach accesses are managed by the big campsites, but free stretches remain. Compared with Jesolo the atmosphere is more natural and less showy: fewer see-and-be-seen beach clubs, more families, sport and open-air holidays.
Things to do in Cavallino-Treporti
The number-one attraction is Venice: from the Punta Sabbioni terminal, vaporetti reach San Marco in about 30-40 minutes, with dedicated parking. Don't miss the 'Via dei Forti' cycling route past WWI batteries and rangefinder towers, boat trips across the northern lagoon to Burano and Torcello, birdwatching among the fishing valli and the summer evening markets. The area is also famous for its sand gardens: asparagus and local vegetables served in the peninsula's seafood restaurants.
Jesolo or Cavallino-Treporti?
They are two different holidays that complement each other. Jesolo offers hotels, 15 km of equipped beach, events, shopping on Via Bafile and nightlife; Cavallino-Treporti is the kingdom of campsites and holiday villages immersed in nature, with slower rhythms and Venice within vaporetto reach. Many guests combine the two: those staying in Jesolo use Punta Sabbioni for the Venice day trip, while Cavallino campers come to Jesolo for events, parks and clubs.
