This year Halloween in Jesolo falls on a Friday and a Saturday, and families have plenty to choose from. On Friday 30 October children can spend the night among the machines of the Fabbrica della Scienza, or listen to spine-chilling stories by candlelight at the library; on Saturday 31 October the village of Cortellazzo opens its "haunted houses" to the little ones. Three events designed for different ages: here's how to pick the right one.

Three events, three different ages

The easiest way to choose is to start from your children's age.

For the youngest the pick is *Un borgo da paura*: a Saturday afternoon outdoors, in the garden of the former barracks in Cortellazzo; it ends early and there's no need to book.

For kids aged 8 to 12 there's a real adventure: a whole night at the museum, away from mum and dad, among experiments and mysteries. It is the only one of the three events that is not free.

For ages 11 and up and for adults the right evening is the one at the library: mysterious tales read by candlelight, no special effects but all the atmosphere you need.

Friday 30 October: a night at the Fabbrica della Scienza

The Fabbrica della Scienza, the interactive science museum on via Aquileia, turns for one night into a Halloween setting where science, monsters and mysteries mix. *Notte al Museo: scienza, mostri e misteri* is for children aged 8 to 12: they go in on Friday 30 October at 7pm and come out on Saturday 31 October at 8.30am, with dinner and breakfast included.

Friday 30 October: candlelit spooky stories at the library

While the younger ones are already at the museum, the Biblioteca civica turns off the lights for *La notte di Halloween*. From 9pm to 11pm the Teatrino della Neve reads mysterious tales and spine-chilling stories, strictly by candlelight. The evening is for adults and young people aged 11 and up (the readings are in Italian) and ends with a hot chocolate for everyone taking part.

Entry is free, no booking needed.

Saturday 31 October: Un borgo da paura in Cortellazzo

On Halloween day the village of Cortellazzo, at the eastern end of Jesolo near the mouth of the river Piave, prepares an afternoon just for children. *Un borgo da paura* invites everyone to visit the haunted houses set up in the garden of the former Guardia di Finanza barracks, on via Asmara, from 5pm to 7pm. There's also face painting by Velvet Ink, so kids can arrive at the party properly made up.

Entry is free. It's worth arriving at the start: at the end of October the sun sets just before 5pm, and the falling darkness does the rest of the atmosphere.

A Halloween weekend in Jesolo

With two days in a row, visitors from out of town can turn Halloween into a short weekend by the sea: the night at the museum on Friday, the spooky village on Saturday afternoon and, in between, a walk on the autumn beach. Before you set off, check the weather forecast; for somewhere to sleep or eat, see our pages on hotels and accommodation and restaurants and bars. Other events in town are on the events page.
