Jesolo and Venice are less than 30 kilometres apart as the crow flies, and getting there without a car is easier than many people think. Today there are two ways: the direct bus to Piazzale Roma, or bus plus boat across the lagoon to St Mark's. And a third may be added in the future: a boat line leaving from Jesolo and reaching St Mark's Basin through the inner lagoon, which the town council has just started working on.
By bus to Piazzale Roma
The most direct option is ATVO line 10a, which leaves from the Lido di Jesolo bus station on via Equilio, runs through Jesolo town centre, Caposile and Portegrandi, passes through Mestre and arrives at Piazzale Roma, the last point in Venice reachable by road. The journey takes about an hour and a quarter.
The line runs all year round. With the 2026/2027 winter timetable there is roughly one bus an hour from morning to evening on weekdays, slightly fewer on Sundays and public holidays; not every bus goes all the way to Piazzale Roma, some stop in Mestre, so check the destination of each run. The last bus from Piazzale Roma back to Jesolo leaves at around 9 pm.
A single ticket from Lido di Jesolo to Piazzale Roma costs €5.70 if bought before boarding (at the bus station, at ticket outlets or online); on board it costs €9. From Piazzale Roma you can reach the historic centre on foot or by ACTV water bus.
Bus and boat: arriving at St Mark's from the lagoon
The more beautiful alternative is by water. ATVO line 23a takes you from Lido di Jesolo to Punta Sabbioni, at the tip of the Cavallino peninsula, in about 35 minutes: buses run every half hour, every day, from early morning until the evening, and stop all along the Lido, at piazza Brescia, piazza Internazionale, piazza Aurora and piazza Nember. The ticket costs €3.90 if bought before boarding. At Punta Sabbioni the stop is about 200 metres from the pier.
From there you take the ACTV water bus:
- line 14 leaves every half hour and reaches San Marco–San Zaccaria via the Lido di Venezia in about 35 minutes
- line 15 runs direct to San Zaccaria in about half an hour, but only at certain times on weekday mornings
All in all, it takes about an hour and twenty minutes to get from Jesolo to St Mark's, and arriving in front of the Doge's Palace is worth the trip on its own. The ACTV 75-minute ticket costs €9.50; on board you can only pay by card.
The boat connection also runs in winter, but thick fog and high water can affect the service.
The Bus&Boat combined ticket
For a day trip to Venice the most convenient choice is the Quickly Venezia Bus&Boat, the integrated ticket that includes the ATVO bus to Punta Sabbioni and the ACTV boat. From Lido di Jesolo it costs €26.80 return to St Mark's, or €32.80 as a day ticket (prices valid from 1 September 2026). It is sold at ATVO ticket offices and outlets or online.
The plan: a boat line from Jesolo to St Mark's across the lagoon
Today, however, no scheduled boat leaves Jesolo for Venice: to catch the water bus you have to get to Punta Sabbioni. This is exactly the gap the town council wants to fill.
In autumn 2026 the municipal administration, Jesolo Turismo and Luciano Pareschi, founder of Caribe Bay and a long-time supporter of a water link with Venice, met to work out the project. The idea of a route by sea has been dropped; the choice has fallen on the inner lagoon, which is calmer and easier to organise.
Boats would leave from the Locanda alle Porte 1632, on the banks of the Casson canal near the old locks of the Porte del Cavallino, on the border between Jesolo and Cavallino-Treporti. From there they would sail along the canal and through the Cavallino-Treporti lagoon to St Mark's Basin. An agreement with the municipality of Cavallino-Treporti will therefore be needed.
It would not be a line with departures every hour, but a service with organised trips, designed for tourists, guests and residents: a way to get to Venice and discover the lagoon at the same time. The goal, in the best case, is to launch it for the 2028 tourist season. Timetables, frequency and prices have not yet been defined: when they are, we will update this page.
